The SharePoint Client-Side Object Model (CSOM) enables a client application to make batch requests to a front-end Web server running SharePoint Products and Technologies to perform operations on core platform objects such as lists, sites, and users. With CSOM a client application has access to much of the same functionality that is exposed by the SOAP Web services. CSOM can also be accessed using common web technologies via a REST methodology.

A storage procurement model in which data that no longer needs to be accessed on a regular basis is maintained and backed up remotely by a cloud storage service provider.

A strategy for backing up data that involves sending a copy of the data over a proprietary or public network to an off-site server. The server is usually hosted by a third-party service provider, who charges the backup customer a fee.

A  third-party individual or business acting as intermediary between the purchaser of a cloud computing service and the sellers of that service. The broker provides consulting services to the purchaser on vendor services and cloud computing usage.

An application deployment model in which an application runs in a private cloud or data center and bursts into a public cloud when the demand for computing capacity spikes.
