Push notification is the delivery of information from a software application to a mobile-computing device without a specific request from the client. Push notifications generally originate from a server which can be either transactional or periodical.  Typically, the end user must opt-in to receive alerts; opt-in usually takes place during the install process and end users are provided with a way to manage alerts if they change their minds later on. To receive a push notification, the application for which the push-notification is sent need not be in active state on a mobile device. Different devices and services rely on different methods to deliver push notifications. Apple developers, for example, can use the Apple Push Notification Service's Developers application programming interface (APIs) to have their apps deliver push notifications to iOS devices. Another approach is to use mobile backend as a service (mobile BaaS) cloud services to provide push notification functionality for a mobile app.

PuTTY is a free and open-source terminal emulator, serial console and network file transfer application for Windows and Unix platforms that enables users to remotely access computers over the Internet. It supports several network protocols, including SCP, SSH, Telnet, rlogin, and raw socket connection. It can also connect to a serial port.

Pygame is a set of Python modules designed for writing games. It is built over the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) library, with the intention of allowing real-time computer game development without the low-level mechanics of the C programming language and its derivatives. This allows you to create fully featured games and multimedia programs in the python language. Pygame is highly portable and runs on nearly every platform and operating system.

An open source Web application framework written in Python. It makes extensive use of the Web Server Gateway Interface standard to promote reusability and to separate functionality into distinct modules.

PyQt is one of the two most popular Python bindings for the Qt cross-platform GUI/XML/SQL C++ framework. PyQt developed by Riverbank Computing Limited. Qt itself is developed as part of the Qt Project. PyQt provides bindings for Qt 4 and Qt 5.

An interpreted, OOP language similar to PERL, that has gained popularity because of its clear syntax and readability. Python offers dynamic data type, ready-made class, and interfaces to many system calls and libraries.

Q-Digest is simply a complete binary tree over the range of values, where the leaf nodes are the values themselves. It as an algorithm for computing approximate quantiles on a collection of integers. Data quantiles have many applications from robust estimation, which I'll return to in a later article, to improving database query planning. A quantile summary of the sort the q-digest algorithm generates, captures information about the cumulative density function of a random variable and as such can be used for non-parametric estimation.
