iOS 10 or Android Nougat: A Battle For Next-Gen Operating System
With the evolution of technology, mobile phones are coming up with the latest user-friendly features with time. With the announcement and beta launches on iOS 10 and Android 7.0 Nougat, the users have a good idea about the upgradations in the Next-Gen smartphones by Apple and Google.
The question still arises, which one of the two is going to be the more exciting and forward-thinking operating system?
Like always, both Google and Apple have taken somewhat distinct viewpoints to similar problems including iOS and Android app development Yet, there are specific areas in which these two operating systems can be compared.
Interface
Neither Google or Apple are presenting a total renovation of their particular platforms here. And why would these two leading mobile Operating Systems do this? Still, there are some slightly notable differences in both the interfaces.
Apple is taking further the previous 3D Touch implementation in iOS 10. Additionally, it is also offering widgets on the lock screen, which is accessible with a left swipe. In the case of Android’s long-standing widgets, it’s a different approach, but it is no less valid for it.
iOS 10 seems to have an edge on instinctive interactivity. But Android Nougat is likely to maintain its multitasking crown. Quick Switch enables users to quickly jump back to their previously used application with a double tap on the Recent button.
Meanwhile, users will be able to run two applications simultaneously in the landscape through the Recent menu. They can even drag and drop objects between them. However Apple hasn’t included this feature to iOS 10 – not even in the larger Plus phones, where it would be more useful.
Notifications:
Notifications are part of a User Interface, undoubtedly, but they’re such a considerable part of using both Android and iOS that they are having their own section. Both Android Nougat iOS 10 are set to upgrade the techniques of handling notifications.
In iOS 10, 3D Touch is thoroughly involved, letting users expand notifications and initiate swift responses. The notification menu itself become a facilitated stand-alone menu with no confuse views.
Notifications for Android Nougat now take up more of the screen which gives more information when integrated with a change of font. It also provides faster access to user’s preferred settings toggles, without choosing the double-swipe action of Android Marshmallow.
Android has also included the facility to stack notifications, in order to bundle them together according to the application. iOS is already providing this facility in its own way.
Messaging
With the advancement in technology, messaging apps like Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger are influencing smartphone messaging right now. In order to bring back the trend of text messaging, both Apple and Google are trying their best to make a difference.
Apple is massively upgrading iMessage in iOS 10, and it clearly has its messaging competitors in mind with its twists. Users will be able to plaster their message threads with animations and icons, emoji will play a vital role, and including handwritten messages will be an added advantage.
Google’s way of messaging in Nougat is less splashy, but likely to be even more game-changing. With the successful Android app development, Google has already launched a whole new standalone messaging app called Allo, which incorporates its machine learning technology and substantial search.
Assistant Software
When talking about assistant software, Apple has been first with Siri, but Google has since over strip it with with the open nature and sophistication of Google Now.
With iOS 10, Siri eventually opens up to third-party application developers, so users will be able to ask Apple’s assistant to use non-Apple applications.
Google has been enhancing its Google Now on Tap tool individually from the main Android Operating System, so it did not have a lot to say about it in terms of enhancements in Nougat.
Though, Google does seem to be blending its own assistant software into exciting new places for Nougat, such as in Allo assistant application, where it can pull out photos and generate automated reply suggestions for users.
Users can actually chat with Google’s Allo, asking the questions in a natural language and getting replies accordingly
Conclusion
While Google and Apple have taken distinct approaches with their mobile operating systems to where they are now, Android Nougat and iOS 10 show that they’re slowly connecting.
iOS comes out to be closing the gap on Android in terms of third-party app integration and widgets, while Android is reportedly executing application notification groupings and icon shortcuts like iOS.
It will not be sure that which OS is the more forward thinking and complete until users start using both the final software. But without any doubt, they function more similar than ever.
